Bernhard Ludwig (proionic) and Andreas Schnitzhofer (GIG Karasek) seal their strategic partnership
Strategic partnership with GIG-Karasek

Proionic is proud to announce a strategic partnership with GIG Karasek, a global provider of high-quality process design and turnkey industrial plant engineering in the field of thermal separation technologies, to commercialize proionic’s HIPE-REC® technology.
GIG Karasek’s unmet thin-film high viscosity evaporation technology, already established in various industries on commercial scale, perfectly matches the requirements of proionic’s outstanding HIPE-REC® technology.

Bernhard Ludwig, Head of Operations & Sales:
“In order to ease the commercialization of our HIPE-REC® technology and to gain trust of potential customers it was of upmost importance for us to choose a highly experienced partner with a proven suitable technology. Both their portfolio and their references as well as GIG Karasek’s way to approach new challenges have convinced us of entering into this partnership”.

In addition, turn-key solutions for ionic liquid recovery - aside from distillable ionic liquids – will be further developed within this partnership in close cooperation with proionic’s customers.

Lignin from spruce sawdust – first results from proionic´s new HIPE-REC® technology
Proionic is proud to announce the first successful extraction of Lignin from Austrian spruce sawdust using HIPE-REC®. The utilization of distillable ionic liquids to convert Biomass waste into valuable products is currently investigated at proionic in the framework of the green frontrunner program funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). Besides the extraction efficiency of the ionic liquids being investigated the key benefit of the HIPE-REC® technology is the high recycling rates that can be realized for the eco-solvents. This will lead to an economically feasible process on the larger scale. To add value to the generated Lignin diverse follow-up processes will be investigated including the production of Biofuels, Carbon fibers, cosmetic additives etc.
Martina Ortner, Project Manager of the Green Frontrunner Project:
“The hard work in the last two years has paid off. We have screened dozens of distillable ionic liquids regarding their potential to selectively extract Lignin and their recyclability. We have generated a broad know-how basis and are looking forward to the detailed analysis of our Lignin and its potential to be applied in several applications. Besides Lignin, the next focus will be the isolation and purification of the Cellulosic fraction and the whole team is looking forward to the upcoming challenges!”

As a pioneer in the field of ionic liquids and related applications, with customers all over the world, we are proud to expand our proionic family with Julian in the production team.
Julian is graduating from the ‘Chemistry Academie’ in Graz in these weeks. He passed the written exam a few days ago.
Julian has already completed internships at proionic in the past two years. Therefore, he is already familiar with the infrastructure of our laboratories and the production line. We are very pleased to have won him for our team and are sure that he will quickly fit into the process flows entrusted to him.

Julian:
"I am particularly pleased that a permanent position has now arisen as a result of my internships in recent years. My decision to join the proionic team was easy, as I already knew some of my colleagues, as well as the location and the requirements."
